Namita Thapar, who is one of the sharks in The Shark Tank India and is CEO of Emcure Pharmaceuticals has a strong opinion against Naryan Murthy’s advice regarding India’s work productivity and 70-hour work-week to every India’s youth.
Actually, Infosys founder Narayan Murthy’s comment on India’s work productivity has been controversial. Narayan Murthy suggested that to improve work productivity and compete globally, India’s youth must extend their working hours, as seen in countries like Japan and Germany after World War II. Murthy’s suggestions to come back to a 6-day workweek and increase working hours sparked nationwide discussion.
Anupam Mittal, one of the Sharks in Shark Tank India and founder and CEO of Shadi.com, gave a strong perspective on the issue, suggesting that focusing on the number of hours working is misleading. “I think it’s a big lie being told to this generation, “Mittal said. He strongly believes that “anyone isn’t going to achieve anything bigger in life by just counting the hours, one is spending in”.
On the other hand, Namita Thapar openly criticized the 70-hour work-week policy. Namity said, “I strongly believe that a 70-hour work-week is not only unsustainable but also detrimental to an individual’s physical and mental well-being, and it’s our responsibility as corporate leaders to establish reasonable working hours that prioritize employees’ well-being and long-term productivity”.
