Blinkit Workers: A Heavy Protest.

The Gig and Platform Services Workers Union (GIPSWU) reported all the matters. The report disclosed that around 150 Blinkit workers went on strike this weekend in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, against low pay, poor working conditions, and a lack of summer-oriented uniforms.
The report says that, in response, Blinkit Management accused the workers, and didn’t stop there, but blocked their IDs, and forced them to sign an agreement to let their account continue.
The video shared by GIPWSU on X reflects the Blinkit Gig workers, wearing yellow T-shirts with the “Blinkit” logo. They are demanding something, raising concerns, and showing a big banner.
GIPWSU explained in the post, “#Blinkit has blocked IDs of 150 workers for exercising their constitutional right ofvgoing on strike to demand: -An end to mandatory work between 12-4 pm. -Shaded waiting areas with drinking water, and fans. -Cotton uniforms for the summer.”
Workers’ Concerns and Demands.
Under this protest, workers had some demands to come true. Workers wanted the end of mandatory work between 12 pm to 4 pm, an increase in the minimum wage, and certain basic amenities like shaded waiting areas, drinking water, fans, and demanded Cotton uniforms for summer.
Deccan Herald reported that Workers who were initially attracted by the promise of higher earnings allege that the company abruptly reduced their pay. Initially, they were paid Rs 35 for deliveries up to 2.5 km, which has been brought down to Rs 26. Workers have demanded an increase in the pay rate for deliveries up to 2.5 km to ₹40.
Santosh Jaiswal, a worker at Varanasi’s Blinkit store, reveals how he earns ₹300-₹400 working around 16 hours a day, but initially he was attracted by the high earning promise. “When the store opened, riders earned Rs 130 for 15 orders, Rs 155 for 18 orders, and so on, however, the incentive rates have been reduced over the past two months to Rs 205 for 30 orders, Rs 245 for 35 orders ever since the delivery personnel increased to 150, ” He said, as DH reported.
A Reddit user claims to be a Zomato worker and explains Zomato’s incentive model based on workers’ delivery time and number of orders delivered. “Day shift incentives are more ( 500 for dinner’s 350 ) but order delivery required is more ( 27 for dinner’s 17 ). Two shifts are mandatory, 3+ hours in 12 to 4pm shift and 8pm to 10pm, to be eligible for day shift incentives, “User wrote, and further added this might be the reason why Blinkit workers are demanding an end to mandatory shifts.
Blinkit Suspends Dozens of Workers.

As reports explain how the Company’s management suspends Workers instead of addressing their concerns. GIPSWU writes on X, “On April 26, 2025, 150 Blinkit workers in Shri Ram Colony, Varanasi, UP went on strike. Instead of addressing the workers’ concerns, Blinkit management accused them and, when operations were disrupted, blocked the IDs of approximately 150 workers, citing the strike as the reason.”
In another post, GIPSWU wrote, “On April 27, 2025, a company representative threatened the striking workers with police action and demanded they sign affidavits vowing to never strike again. The workers remain resolute in their demands.”
