Indian Billionaire Balvinder Singh Sahni is sentenced to 5 years in jail in Dubai. He is accused on charge of money laundering. According to local media, this billionaire, also known as ‘Abu Sahab’, is jailed for 5 years in Dubai, with a 500,000 AED (₹1 crore) fine. Even he will be deported once completes the sentence.

Khaleej Times reported, a fixture in Dubai’s elite circles, Billionaire, was accused of money laundering of 150 Dirham through a network of shell companies and forged invoices. According to Gulf News, Dubai’s Fourth Criminal Court also ordered the confiscation of 150 million dirham (around ₹344 crore) from Sahni.

Alongside him, among 32 others, his son also comes. So, these fraudsters have also been fined 200,000 Dirham, and some of them are sentenced to jail for around 1 year.

Year 2024 was the first time that the case against Sahni and other defenders was filed at the Bur Dubai Police Station. In December that year, the case was transferred to the Public Prosecution. The investigation unfolded a sophisticated laundering operation through shell companies, a fake commercial partnership, and suspicious transactions both in the UAE and abroad.

Ultimately, he was caught in May, when the court ordered Sahni to pay a 500,000 AED fine, and ordered the seizure of 150 million Dirham (₹344 crore). He gets 5 5-year punishments of jail sentences, and is ordered to be deported after completing the sentence.

Defendants, who tried to defend in absentia and who appeared in court, several of them were sentenced for a year, and were fined 200,000 dirhams. Moreover, companies which involved in this operation were fined 50 million dirham each.
