The major key players like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto are now operating in major Indian cities, delivering food, groceries, and other household items to customer’s doorstep in a matter of minutes.
Kamra attacked on New Year’s evening when Blinkit’s CEO Albinder Dhindsa was tweeting on X about the enormous orders coming through his platform Blinkit. New Year’s evening is one of the busiest times for platforms like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto, where people at parties order, essential items like Soft drinks, Chips, Ice cubes, and more.
On the new year’s evening of 2024, Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa was sharing on X Saying, “1.2 lakh packs of condoms, and 45,000 bottles of mineral waters were out for delivery through Blinkit. These were the highest orders among the many order insights he shared during the night.
Kunal Kamra, however, has the curiosity to know how much Blinkit’s “Delivery Partners” earned through these deliveries. So, reacting to that post Kamra asked Dhindsa, “Can you also enlighten us with data on the average wages you paid your “Delivery Partners” in 2024…”.
In another follow-up post, Kunal Kamra elaborated on the dark side of Quick Commerce, saying that these, tagging platform owners exploit gig workers.

He further wrote, “Platform owners exploit gig workers & they aren’t job creators. They are landlords without owning any land”.
“They don’t have a bone of creativity or innovation all they do is exploit people by offering them the freedom that they can’t afford while giving them wages that can’t meet their aspirations,” Kamra added.
Pointing out all the quick commerce owners as “Thugs”, accusing how they are allowed to exploit the gig workers as there are no rules, laws, or regulations against them to limit exploitation.
“They are thugs that are using data as oil without paying for the oil fields. Someday there will be regulation that humbles them…”, Kunal Kamra Wrote.

An X user Ganeshan wrote Supporting Kunal point of view, “Perfectly put. I am wondering why is there no regulation right now. Is the lobby so big and so powerful, that it can run riot freely? Blinkit, Zepto, Zomato, Swiggy. All of them. Zero creativity- only exploitation. The delivery workers are stretched to a great extent for compensation that is not justified at all. 10 mins delivery isn’t a landmark thing tbh. It’s sheer exploitation of humanity to satisfy the ego & whims of the buyer”.
While Siddharth Chanchani wrote opposing, “This is such a wrong take. This is a legit industry employing over lakhs of people. The wages offered are close to 20-30k a month which is the same as a starting salary in IT. The advantage of gig model is anybody wanting to earn a little extra can take this up. Nobody is forcing anyone to do this yet every year 100s of thousand people are moving to cities to work for these companies”.
