Elon Musk, founder and CEO of SpaceX, Tesla, Starlink, and more, is now listed in those commenting on Work-Life Balance. Recently, Elon Musk released a post on X, reacting to a post praising the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for uncovering fraud in the previous administration. Elon Musk boasted DOGE’s 120-hour work week, saying something that resulted in internet fireback on Elon Musk.

Let’s find out Elon Musk’s remark on work-life balance, and what the netizens are saying about this odd statement, why Narayan Murthy and SN Subrahmanyan are linked with this.

Internet Fired Back On Elon Musk Because of…

Elon Musk, founder and CEO of billion-worth companies, who always sustains the trend on social because of his incredible achievements, has now become a subject of criticism. This is because of his recent post, where he slammed the 40-hour work week and endorsed the 120-hour work week.

Elon Musk said in a recent post that the Department of Government Efficiencies (DOGE), which he leads, works 120 hours each week. Under this statement of Musk, employees of DOGE work 17 hours all seven days. Or they sacrifice the whole 24 hours of the day for 5 days.

Elon Musk wrote, “DOGE is working 120 hours a week. Our bureaucratic opponents optimistically work 40 hours a week. That is why they are losing so fast” while reacting to a post complementing DOGE’s performance in finding massive waste, fraud, and abuse of the tax money in the previous administration.

Co-chair of DOGE, Elon Musk, has already been a supporter of a longer work culture. Musk had mandated an 80-hour work week in a post on Twitter (now X) following his 2022 takeover. Elon Musk responded to a post that praised the new administration and its newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), dedicated to finding frauds linked to the previous administration.

In post words, “DOGE is speedrunning government reform—$4B/day cuts could start THIS weekend. Bureaucracy never saw it coming. x.com/MarioNawfal/st… In response to this admiration, Musk wrote, “Very few in the bureaucracy actually work the weekend, so it’s like the opposing team just leaves the field for 2 days! Working the weekend is a superpower”.

Netizens seemed to be divided into two groups, one supporting Elon Musk because of his success with long hours, and the other asking questions about balance in mental health, and relation, and the rest criticizing Musk because of his rude remark.

A netizen wrote praising his remark, “There’s a reason why Elon Musk’s companies are so successful. They work 120 hours per week!”. While another wrote raising concerns about sustainability, “More than 85 hours is really just not sustainable. So how are federal staff in DOGE legally putting in these hours?”. Then a critic wrote reprimanding the whole tech industry’s overwork model, “a plantation… no rights, no job security, no future.”

Even one wrote, raising a question on the backlash of Elon Musk, “Will he get memes like NRM and SNS, or will he get appreciation because he is Elon Musk?”.

SN Subrahmanyan, CEO of Larsen and Toubro (L&T), faced criticism because of his controversial remark on the 90-hour workweek. He said, emphasizing the 90-hour workweek, “Employees must work 90 hours a week, even on Sundays, to compete with other nations. Subrahmanyan said he regretted that he wasn’t able to make L&T employees work on Sundays because he does so himself”, and further said taunting, “What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? How long can wives stare at their husbands? Go to the office and start working”.

Narayan Murthy, founder of Infosys, also had to face criticism because of his controversial remark on work-life balance. This controversial remark didn’t only lead Narayan to criticism but also his company faced the netizen’s anger. Now it’s Elon Musk, who has been added to the list, raising the question, will he and his company see any backlash?
