Bezos led Space technology company Blue Origin launched its reusable rocket, New Glenn on early Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 2:03 a.m. from Launch Complex 36 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. New Glenn is named after the first American to oribit earth.
According to The Washington Post, New Glen was supposed to fly before dawn Monday, but ice buildup in critical plumbing caused a delay.
As New Glenn was designed to fulfill reusable purpose, and blue origin tried to land its booster stage on a ship in Atlantic Ocean, but the attempt was not successful.
The Washington Post reported, Three of the booster’s engines relit to slow the vehicle down as it approached a ship at sea several hundred miles out in the Atlantic Ocean, but the booster was lost. It was not immediately clear what happened, Ariane Cornell, Blue Origin’s vice president of in-space systems, said during the company’s live broadcast of the mission.
Cornell said, “We didn’t have booster landing, but man, we got close. While Bezos had said in a brief interview before the mission regarding landing attempt, “success would be icing on the cake”.
