The Formation of Carbon & Whale.
This story of innovation starts with two brains named Alvin George and Siddharth A K. When they met by chance, they shared the frustration regarding the solution for plastic waste. So, they planned to start something to make the best use of plastics.
So, they founded the Carbon & Whale startup in 2022 with Saroj Verma, a professor at the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET), to develop methods for repurposing single-use plastic waste.
From the very start, their purpose was very clear: to somehow give used plastics a new life, converting them into beautiful furniture with a 15 to 20 years of lifespan.
Carbon & Whale has developed products using upcycled plastic waste that range from rust-free benches to tiles even stronger than concrete ones, and plant pots that withstand seasonal wear.
These products are now in public, fulfilling the purpose. Products are being publicized with the partnership to great names such as Kochi Metro, Kerala Tourism, LuLu Group, and more.
Startup not only addresses the state’s plastic waste problem, but also creates durable solutions for urban infrastructure. Their Tiles are an example. Tiles are lightweight but robust, with a lifespan of around 50 years.
Carbon & Whale: A Remarkable Success.
Startup saw a robust performance since its launch in 2022. For the year of the company, it made a revenue of ₹69,447, but within three years in FY 25, the startup’s revenue surged to ₹5 crore, marking an incredible growth.
Till yet, the company has saved landfills and oceans from 13,000 kilograms of plastic. Carbon & Whale’s innovative move has attracted the attention of corporations to support sustainability initiatives through partnership.
Due to this company is easily able to fund the projects to convert plastic waste into beautiful furniture to use them in public places such as parks and metro stations.
Carbon & Whale: An Awareness Campaign.
As per the startup’s website information, at Carbon and Whale, we believe plastic can have a second life. We transform discarded plastic into beautiful and functional products. Our mission is to eliminate 1 million kilograms of plastic waste and be accountable for every single plastic waste in Kerala by 2025. We are not alone in this mission, we work closely with different communities through our #decluttercampaign, turning trash into treasure
According to a Linking post that revealed their goal, “Their goal? To repurpose one million kg of plastic waste into furniture. And with support from socially responsible corporates and local communities, they’re on a mission to make single-use plastic waste a thing of the past.”
