Elon Musk’s DOGE Erased $182Mn In Contracts From DHHS.
DOGE, headed by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, took social media platform X, sharing the termination of around 62 contracts worth $168mn within 48 hours from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). This termination notably includes a $170,000 contract for Dr. Antony Fauci’s exhibit at the NIH museum.
DOGE shared on X (earlier Twitter), “In the past 48 hours, HHS canceled 62 contracts worth $182 million. These contracts were entirely for administrative expenses – none touched any healthcare programs. This included terminating a $168,000 contract for an Anthony Fauci exhibit at the NIH Museum.”
Fauci’s Federal Career Was Highlighted.
According to the Hindustan Time report, There were few details available about the proposed exhibit, but it was expected to highlight Fauci’s lengthy federal career, which started in 1968 at the National Institutes of Health and concluded with him assisting US President Donald Trump and his predecessor Biden during the COVID pandemic.
However, the controversial COVID limitations that Fauci helped put into place, such as mask-wearing, social distancing, and severe vaccination requirements that resulted in the forcible dismissal of military personnel, tarnished his legacy, the report further added.
Charges Against Fauci with Misleading Congress.
Reportedly, Fauci was charged with misleading Congress on the US funding gain-of-function research at the Wuhan, China, laboratory where the virus is believed to have started and spread.
“The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has never and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology, “Fauci stated during testimony at a Senate hearing in May 2021.
Hindustan Times reported, “However, emails revealed that in February 2020, Dr. Francis Collins, the head of the NIH, Fauci, and Dr. Peter Daszak, the head of the organization that granted funding to the WIV, EcoHealth alliance, acknowledged that Wuhan University researchers were conducting gain-of-function experiments to investigate bat viruses’ ability to become adapted to human infection before the Wuhan outbreak.
Fauci explicitly stated in one email that he was worried that COVID may have been modified genetically and that his reservations were exacerbated by the fact that Wuhan was conducting gain-of-function experiments before the outbreak of the pandemic, the report said.
Social Users Take on This Termination.
After this update from DOGE, the reactions of netizens are worth recognizing. Some users are very happy and others are raising questions, while some are supporting this step, praising Donald Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
One User wrote, “Why are we funding an NIH museum at all? Government agencies should not use taxpayers’ money to celebrate their supposed greatness.”
While another wrote, “Keep going. Every dime should be going to valid things and not wasted. Some say it’s not a ton but, every million adds up, and considering few will have a million in the bank, that is a lot. Think about it as your household and how at times, some of us have had a dollar in the bank when trying to raise kids. Paying the bills, buying groceries, and having a dollar was just enough not to get hit with overdrawn fees. That is our country right now, hit with overdrawn fees and it’s destroying us.”
Another wrote in a criticizing mood, “The average person would go to prison for tax fraud, and they go through and waste all of our tax dollars for work around programs and kickbacks, and we will likely see no consequences for this.”
